Lucky B is back for Mash

He announced his retirement from the music industry almost a year ago and since then has taken up fashion designing, but Lucky B is staging a comeback for Mashramani this year.

Lucky B, born Carlos Williams, is set to enter the Soca Monarch and Chutney Monarch competitions this year and his entries ‘The Return of the King” (Soca) and “Chutney Passe” (Chutney), he says, will certainly stir things up.

Lucky B told The Scene that he decided to return to singing after being prompted to by many persons.

“I decided to come out of retirement for Mash. Everybody feels that I have not reached time to retire so I have decided to continue singing for another ten years,” he said with a laugh.

And if you are planning to go to carnival in Trinidad on February 4 and 5, you could possibly hear some of Lucky B’s songs. He informed The Scene that he was releasing “The Return of the King” and several other songs there to coincide with that country’s street party.

He is very confident that his music career will not clash with his fashion designing, since “in music one gets a lot of free time”. Lucky B also plans to make matters easier by incorporating his music into his fashion.

With excitement in his voice, he said that he had a year of rest so he is fully energized for his comeback.

The singer, who had made it big on the Chutney scene with his famous “Son-in-law must never live by mother-in-law” had been part of the Mashramani celebrations for many years.

Last year he announced that he was retiring and working on a clothing line called `Stosh’ which features styles for men, women and children for weddings, parties and other occasions. The designs come in batik, tie-dye, African pieces among others.

The 2008 Calendar

Is it here? Unfortunately no. Things did not work out as planned for Lucky B. Speaking on the issue he said that it had to be pushed back because his models were very busy during the Christmas period. However, he promised that it will be out by month end.

After a one-week competition, an up and coming model was to be chosen by the public for the calendar. The competition was to be done in the form of a television series. The models had posed in swimwear at several locations and these pictures would have made up the series.

He said that because of how things happened in December he decided to push back the launching of the calendar and his 2008 Stosh Line collection for later this month.

He said that for the calendar he has decided that he would use the best shots that were taken with the girls in the red bikini line.
