As relatives of a ten-year-old boy of Sisters Village, East Berbice prepare to take legal action against a police officer for allegedly beating him for stealing money, senior officers contacted them to “settle the matter”.
Attorney-at-law Charrandass Persaud, who is representing the child, told this newspaper yesterday that ranks picked up his clients on Monday and took them to a senior officer in New Amsterdam and “he offered to help the family by settling the matter”.
But he said, the relatives responded that they would have to speak to their lawyer first. The child was reportedly beaten by police at the Sisters Police Station after a neighbour reported that the boy went into her house on New Year’s Day while she was out and stole $6,000.
