Reclaim sacredness of life

The Roman Catholic Church has joined with others in strongly condemning the killings in Lusignan yesterday and has extended its condolences to the families of the victims.

In a press statement yesterday Bishop of George-town Francis Alleyne said the incident would understandably stir anger and fear in many hearts, “and may open wounds of the past.” However, in the face of this and other occurrences where persons had been killed injured, maimed and abused, the Church called on the people of Guyana “to reclaim for the nation the sacredness of human life,” and work for harmony.
