ACDA urges international community to ‘stop being passive bystanders’

Referring to the brutal slaying of 11 persons, including five children, at Lusignan last Saturday morning, the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) said those in political office must be held responsible and urged the international community to stop being passive bystanders in a seemingly escalating national crisis.

ACDA in a press statement extended its deepest sympathies to the families, relatives and friends of those who lost their lives in Lusignan while pointing out that “We firmly believe in the sanctity of all human life and especially the lives of children.”

“We need to hold those in political office responsible for this new development that puts us all at risk and urge the international community to stop being passive bystanders at the seemingly escalating crisis in the country,” the organization declared.

It observed too that recently it had “raised its voice against the torture of African Guyanese males and opined that this trend should be wholly condemned by all because of the potential for unintended consequences. Now the Lusignan killings have occurred, ACDA once more calls for a condemnation of all atrocities and for peace and justice to prevail.”
