Dowlin strikes unbeaten ton as Stanford Twenty20 team defeats Select XI

An unbeaten 109 from Travis Dowlin propelled the Guyana Stanford Twenty20 team to a 104-run whipping of a select XI in a specially arranged practice match yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda ground yesterday.

The Guyana Stanford XI reached 198-4 from their 20 overs and then dismissed the Select XI for 94.

Batting first, Dowlin demolished the bowling attack striking Travis Blyden into the Rohan Kanhai stand over long on for six as he and Lennox Cush (47) posted 118 for the second wicket.

Dowlin faced 50 balls and struck seven fours and eight sixes in his innings whilst Cush faced 41 balls and struck two fours and the same amount of sixes before he was removed by Orin Forde (3-42).

Earlier, opener Chris Barnwell and Dowlin put on 14 for the first wicket before Barnwell was removed by Trevon Garraway with the score on 35.

His departure brought together Dowlin and Cush and together they set about repairing the innings with some purposeful running between the wickets.

Following the dismissal of Cush, Orin Forde bowled Leon Johnson and also dismissed Esaun Crandon courtesy of a tumbling catch on the long off boundary by Blyden.

In reply and needing to score over 9.5 runs per over, the select XI got off to a flyer as openers Krishna Arjune and Shemroy Barrington tore into the bowling of Crandon and Barnwell.

They took a special liking to Barnwell who was guilty of bowling too full at times. He was roughed up by especially, Barrington, who struck him over long off for six. However, from the comfortable position of 25 without loss in four overs, the Select XI crumbled and folded for a paltry 94 from just 10.4 overs.

Only Gajanand Singh with 26 including five fours and Assad Fudadin who made 22 with three fours and one six, offered any resistance to the bowling of Mahendra Nagamootoo (2-2), Dion Ferrier (2-7), Cush (2-14), Neil Mc Garrell (2-18) and Crandon (2-30).

The team will play two more practice games tomorrow at the Albion Community Centre ground in Berbice and also has another scheduled for Wednesday under the lights at the Banks DIH ground Thirst Park.
