The Government is taking some positive steps

Dear Editor,

Everyone has been clamoring for the government to be more effective in combating the crimewave emanating from Buxton.

Newspapers editorials and commentators (myself included) have harshly criticized what is perceived as a general impotence in national leadership and inadequate policing techniques when it comes to combating murdering bandits.

Now, it appears that the State is making (small) efforts to fulfill its mandated duty of protecting citizens. Taken together, the street lighting exercise in Lusignan, the soon to be implemented UK help for the police and most significantly the clearing of the killers’ jungle hideout aback Buxton is a good start. But there is still a lot more to be done.

As reports grow about collusion between the bandits and some officers within the security forces the need for an effective internal affairs and intelligence unit is becoming critical. Such a unit could perhaps function from the Ombudsman office rather than within the police hierarchy where the risk of contamination is greater.

Now, everyone knows murderous bandits hide out in the Buxton backlands so I am puzzled why some people are hassling the government for demolishing the killers’ lair. For the government it’s like “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. I fully support bulldozing the area and am heartened by the government’s willingness to compensate anyone who suffers financial losses in the exercise.

Yours faithfully,

Justin de Freitas
