Nine injured in minibus, car collision

Nine persons were taken for treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday afternoon after a bus and a car were involved in a collision, around 15:20 hrs at Vigilance, East Coast Demerara.

According to Roxanne Fraser of Mahaicony, a passenger in the bus, the Route 50 minibus was heading east to Mahaicony when the car, coming from the opposite direction overtook another vehicle. She said the car could not get back into its lane fast enough hence the collision.

A source at the hospital told this newspaper that no life-threatening injuries were sustained.

Fraser’s daughters Tricia Charles, 24, and Cheryl Mingo, 26, who is pregnant were also involved in the accident. While Stabroek News was at the hospital, Charles was taken to do an x-ray and according to her mother she could not walk. Mingo had swellings to her face, while Fraser had some minor abrasions on her hands, face and legs.

Andel Bourne another passenger in the bus suffered a split bottom lip. He was treated and discharged.

Other patients were still at the hospital receiving treatment while others were discharged. All the passengers in the bus are residents of Mahaicony.
