Vendor in court over pinching woman

A 34-year-old man who allegedly pinched and slapped a woman while she was in a minibus was yesterday placed on bail when he was taken before the Georgetown Magistrate Court.

Linden George of 143 Bagotsville, West Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful assault when it was read to him by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

It is alleged that on February 9, George pinched a woman on the left upper arm and then slapped her when she objected to his action.

According to George, who is a footwear vendor, he was attending to a customer a short distance away from the minibus the woman was in and he had no physical contact with her.

The woman explained to the court that on the day in question she was sitting on the left side of the mini-bus next to the window when George pinched her on the arm. She said, she objected to this and George attempted to repeat the action and she tried to elude him. When she did this, she said, George slapped her.

George was placed on $25,000 bail and the matter is due to go to trial on March 7 in Court Two.
