T&T security minister condemns killings, offers help

Trinidad and Tobago Minister of National Security Martin Joseph has strongly condemned “the wanton killings of 12 Guyanese, including three police officers,” at Bartica on Sunday night and extended an offer of assistance.

Joseph who is the Chair of Caricom Ministers of National Security and law Enforcement, in a statement issued yesterday said that he was appalled at the senseless killings and loss of lives through this at dastardly act by cold-blooded killers.

The Ministry of National Security said Joseph was in the process of contacting Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee “to offer condolences to the people of Guyana and to determine what assistance, if any, may be needed at this time.”

In a brief comment on his Trinidad and Tobago counterpart’s reaction to the slayings here, Rohee, who spent the day at Bartica told the Stabroek News that he got the message from Joseph and was thankful for the solidarity on the issue at this time.

He said he would be in discussions with the T&T security minister.
