The walls of the social order are crumbling

Dear Editor,

It is with disgust that I read the report in your well read and informative paper with respect to the killing in Bartica.

Mr Editor, I wish to say that it is the general object of punishment by the State through the courts to reduce crime and for citizens to respect the criminal law. It is obvious that the courts of law of this country have failed in this objective.

Criminal justice is based on the premise that all who break the law are brought to court and punished. This is the moral cement that binds society. It seems to me that every February in this country the social order is targeted.

The crumbling of the walls of the social order of Guyanese society must stop. There must be an immediate rebuilding of same.

Why can’t the government hire mercenaries to solve their problems? Why isn’t this huge problem tackled and solved?

Yours faithfully,

MS Zafar
