Two Bartica slaughter victims laid to rest

Under cloudy skies, grieving relatives, friends and residents gathered yesterday to bid goodbye to Tuschen resident and slain sailor, Errol Thomas, the first of the 12 victims of the February 17 Bartica slaughter to be laid to rest.

Following the viewing of his body at the family’s Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo residence, the body was transported to the Essequibo River island of Wakenaam, where Thomas was born and grew up, for a funeral service, according to Muslim rites.

Described as “a peaceful guy” by a relative and one who liked his job, Thomas was 41-years-old at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn his wife, two daughters and other relatives.

GINA also yesterday reported that another victim Ashraf Ali Khan of Middlesex, Essequibo was laid to rest. Relatives of other victims, including Deonarine Singh are also making arrangements for funerals.
