Pardoned phone snatcher put on bond for two years

A 20-year-old man was pardoned by the woman he stole from when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Paul Joseph of 5A Meadow Brook Drive, Mandela Avenue had snatched Juanita McDonald’s cell phone while she was answering a phone call on Woolford Avenue Tuesday last.

He was caught by a taxi driver who heard the woman screaming ‘thief’. The student told the court that he snatched the phone to sell it because he needed money.

McDonald asked the magistrate to give the youth a chance so that he could continue at school. She also requested that no fine be imposed on him since her phone was recovered.

Joseph apologized to McDonald and said he would not commit such an act again.

Magistrate Mellisa Robertson-Ogle told Joseph that he was lucky. She told him to desist from such behaviour since in future he might not be so lucky and placed him on a bond for two years.
