Many young men have no role models in their lives

Dear Editor,

I agree that stringent security measures need to be put in place, such as an emergency response. So when an incident is reported road blocks are set up around the area quickly, in the hope to catch the perpetrators. However, I believe that something is missing, and that is looking at the social issues involved. There are too many desperate and aggressive young people around, especially the males.

How many of our young men have role models in their lives? It is found that young men without fathers in their lives often display aggressive traits and get involved in crime. Also there is a lack of job opportunities for them, so they turn to such options.

A close eye also needs to be kept on the type of music that young people and even children are exposed to, for much of it actually promotes violence. In fact I am still waiting for music to be banned in mini buses where it is dished out on a broad basis, to those who should not hear it and those who do not want to hear it.

Yours faithfully,
