Chevron says odour at Ramsburg Terminal harmless

Chevron West Indies said the odour emanating from the Ramsburg Terminal poses no risk to health or the environment.

In a press release Chevron said the odour was caused by a leakage in one of its containers of LPG Odorant (Ethyl Mercapton), a chemical which is added to odorize LPG, which is naturally odourless. The company said as soon as the odour was detected an emergency response team contained it.

Chevron’s Regional LPG Manager, Latin America Lionel “Andy” Inniss said “Only trace amounts of Ethyl Mercapton can still be noticed and should be totally gone in the next 48 hours.”
