PNCR congratulates Raul Castro

The PNCR has congratulated President Raul Castro on his election to high office in the Republic of Cuba even as it recalls the fertile relations Guyana shared with that country under former President Fidel Castro.

In a press release the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) said it is absolutely confident that Castro’s many years of experience as one of the leading politicians of the Cuban Revolution will ensure that he would continue to “steer the ship of State towards a safe haven while ensuring the continued progress and development of its people.” The PNCR also said Castro’s service as Minister of Defence and his understanding of the regional and national environment in which Cuba has had to operate will inform his post as president.

The party said too that while “the towering figure of Fidel Castro will no longer be holding the post of President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces;” he has said that in his retirement he will remain “a soldier of ideas” for the Cuban Revolution. It also said it remembers the fruitful relations it and Guyana enjoyed under the elder Castro due to the close relationship between its founder leader; the late President LFS Burnham and former President Castro.
