Aerial search done for missing fishermen

Two search planes were yesterday sent out to look for the missing crew of the Palpos III after relatives on Thursday pleaded for an aerial check to be conducted.

Captain Mahadeo Ramdeo, 24, of 190 Coldingen Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD), Ramnarine Jagmohan, 46, of 356 Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara and another man, also said to be from ECD and whose identity has not yet been established, have not been heard from since they went out to sea on January 23. The men were expected to return 21 days later. Relatives became concerned after the time elapsed and they had had no word from them. They contacted the owners of the boat about the men’s prolonged absence and reported the matter to the police.

Latchmin Jagmohan and Khobini Sanchari, the mothers of two of the three missing fishermen told Stabroek News last evening that yesterday around 4.30 pm an official from the Ministry of Agriculture said Pritipaul Singh Investments (PSI) sent out the planes to continue the search for the men. Relatives said they met with Minister Robert Persaud yesterday at 10 am after which Persaud reportedly met with PSI representatives and the company agreed to hire the planes to widen the search.

This newspaper’s attempts to obtain a comment from PSI about the new developments proved futile. However, a PSI representative said the company will answer queries today.
