Not the time to score political points

Dear Editor

As I sit in the Chambers of the National Assembly to debate the 2008 Budget I am amazed at the government trying to score political points by telling the people of Guyana that upon their visit to Bartica and Lusignan, the people were united and that this was based on them being happy and contented with the government even though they were in crisis.

I would like to compliment my fellow Barticians on their mature attitude of being resolute and focused.

Bartica has always been the shining representation of our Motto “One People One Nation One Destiny”. I do not know of the way of life of the residents of Lusignan. What I know for sure is that Bartica is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic community and we live as one regardless of our religion and political persuasion.

We will not be brain washed for anyone’s purpose. What we need is to have our old Bartica where we can leave our doors and windows open while we sleep, when we can take our kids out on a Saturday night for their evening walks for their ice cream.

Life at Bartica has changed. For how long is uncertain. We need to feel secure once again. We need the presence of the GDF barracks. We need for the Bartica Police Station to be secure so as to promote a better working environment for our policemen and women.

Mr Editor, I would like to publicly extend on behalf of my family our sincere condolences and I would like to thank the Guyanese diaspora of New Jersey for their inter-faith service and their thoughts and comforting words and any other ways of extending their love to us. We want to assure you that we love you and we always will.

The family of Bartica do trust that you will visit us for our annual Regatta Festival.

Yours faithfully,

Judith David-Blair
