Woman assaulted cop in station compound -court hears

A 21-year-old woman was placed on $60,000 bail after she appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on charges of malicious assault, resisting arrest, destruction of property on a person and disorderly behaviour.

Sophia Boston pleaded not guilty to all four charges which allegedly occurred outside the East La Penitence police station on Tuesday.

Boston of 56 Robb Street, Bourda was at the said police station to enquire about Sherwin Allen who was arrested in connection with a stolen motorcycle. The accused also faced the court yesterday on a charge of malicious wounding.

While at the station she reportedly began to behave in an unruly manner and was asked to leave by police officer Rosanne Forde whom she assaulted. She left the compound and returned. She allegedly started to quarrel, using indecent language and was being escorted out of the compound by Forde when she grabbed the officer and started to cuff her. When Forde attempted to arrest her, Boston reportedly tore the blouse Forde was wearing straight down the middle, in the process spraining Forde’s fingers.

When given a chance to speak Boston told the court that she did go to the station to enquire about Allen. She said she was asked to leave by Forde who started to push her out of the compound. Boston said that Forde hit her first and she retaliated.

The matter returns to court on March 13.
