The campaign by Stabroek News is preposterous

Dear Editor,

If the Stabroek News is genuinely desirous of resolving the standoff between itself and the government, it should stop wasting time by trying to publicize the already over-ventilated issue and be man enough to withdraw its original absurd assertion that the government is guilty of suppressing press freedom.

There is just no way that a professional examination of the stated and actual policy of the government will support the mischievous claim by Stabroek News.

This aggrieved newspaper believed that it would have succeeded in cowering the government by shouting to the world at large that suppression of the press was happening in Guyana, and I will be most surprised if a resort to blackmail will force this democratically-elected government to relent because of this preposterous campaign by the Stabroek News.

Withdraw the false allegation and let peace prevail should be the sensible way forward to be adopted by the newspaper.

Yours faithfully,

David DeGroot
