Two men were remanded on a joint charge of robbery under arms when they appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Osey Bernard and Doodnauth Narine allegedly entered the Goed Intent home of Natasha and Mohamed Inshan and robbed them at gunpoint of one Motorola cell phone valued $60,000 along with $200,000 and US$3,000.
An occupant of the home, Bibi Fareeda Inshan was shot in the attack.
The men were represented by attorney-at-law Mishka Puran who made an application for bail.
She said that her instructions are that the virtual complainants (VCs) made a statement to the police saying that one of the men who robbed them had the build of their neighbour, the number one defendant, Bernard.
However in an identification parade Bernard was not identified by the VCs. Puran also said that the VCs told police that the men who robbed them were masked and therefore they would not be able to identify them at a trial. She asked for bail on those grounds.
However police prosecutor Desiree Fowler said that her instructions differed in that Bernard was positively identified by the VCs since he had been living next door to them for quite a while. The number two defendant, Narine had been living in the same house with the VCs, Fowler said.
The prosecutor said that to her knowledge no ID parade was carried out. She also said that the men had handkerchiefs around their mouths and so most of their face was visible. She objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
The matter was transferred to the Wales Magistrate’s Court for March 27.
