Wounded teen stable

The police are still looking for those behind the execution-style killing of a 48-year-old Charlestown man and the wounding of his teenage daughter on Laing Avenue on Thursday night in what appeared to be a well-planned attack.

The injured teen, Anika Barton, is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Hospital having been shot some five times.

When Stabroek News visited the hospital yesterday Barton was sitting on a chair in the passageway in the open ward chatting with a relative. Her right knee was bandaged and she appeared to be alright.

She told this newspaper that she had six holes in her knee and two in her buttocks, representing entry and exit wounds. She said that she was not in pain.

Barton and her father George were walking on the road around 8.10 pm when a white car with four men pulled up alongside them. They reportedly called out Barton’s name before shooting him three to four times then turned their weapons on the teen. It is believed that Anika was deliberately injured since the gunmen could have easily killed her.

Police investigations are continuing.
