Woman charged with murder of Warudi bartender

A 28-year-old woman last week appeared in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court charged with the March 11 murder of a bartender.

Rebecca Antoine, who appeared before Magistrate Fazil Azeez, was not required to plead to the indictable charge. It is alleged that on March 11, in the Warudi backdam, Cuyuni, Essequibo, she murdered Mark Wilson called ‘Markie’.

Antoine was unrepresented and was remanded to prison. She will return to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on May 13 for submission of reports.

Wilson, 37, was stabbed in the neck on the night of March 11 and bled to death, reportedly after attempting to subdue his assailant, who was said to be in a drunken state at the time.

According to information reaching this newspaper, Wilson was a bartender at a shop in Warudi. On the night in question, the accused was reportedly at the shop in a drunken state and was said to be behaving badly. Wilson attempted to subdue her and was cut on the nose with a knife, which the woman allegedly had in her possession.

He reportedly became angry and slapped her and they both fell on the ground. As he was trying to get up, the woman allegedly stabbed him in the neck. He was taken to his room where he bled to death.
