We’re ready to get to work on the Ogle Community Centre

Dear Editor,

I am now convinced the newly constructed Ogle community centre has become a white elephant. It is really sad to see the present condition of the building and the ground. Some four months ago I wrote a letter to the Stabroek News denouncing the condition and called on residents from all the nearby communities to get involved. A few of us met and had a brainstorming session. We decided to petition Minister Kellawan Lall for his blessing and direction to proceed.
Within two weeks, he sent a representative. We had a discussion and the representative asked for our programme and for time to have a meeting with Mr Sheik Yassin, the individual who was /is running the affairs.
I crafted a programme two days after and delivered same directly to the representative. Six months later we haven’t heard anything, although I wrote to the minister some six weeks ago.

Our choice for chairman is Mr Ishmael Mohamed, the current president of Ogle Masjid. This gentleman is a successful businessman and a person with integrity. We would start by paying the overdue light, telephone and water bills.

Our programme has a variety of activities that would benefit all. Our main targets are the youths and the vulnerable in the respective communities. We also are desirous of bringing back this important institution to its former glory.

We are prepared to engage in top gear if permission is granted from the relevant authority..
Yours faithfully,
Tajpaul Gainda
