Businesswoman ambushed at stoplight

Gunmen last evening stuck up a businesswoman while she waited for the traffic light to change at the junction of Sheriff and Duncan streets, carting off a quantity of cash and jewellery before escaping in a taxi.
Indira Bacchus who parts owns a business place in Campbellville and operates another business outlet in the Stabroek Market was on her way home around 5:45 pm yesterday in a taxi when the car stopped at Duncan and Sheriff streets to wait for the light to change.
Once the taxi stopped, Bacchus said that a car drove up behind them and two men emerged from the vehicle and placed two hand guns to her head. She said they demanded cash and jewellery and she surrendered a bag containing $80,000.

The men also relieved the woman of gold jewellery valued at $150,000 along with four cell phones. They then made good their escape. Bacchus said that while the bandits were escaping the taxi driver managed to recognize the licence plate number of their vehicle – HB 2432. Bacchus believes that she was trailed from the market by the bandits who appeared to be in their early 20s.
