Namilco launches cereal

Namilco Marketing Manager Damon Pestano displays a box of the new Cream of Wheat for Infants and Toddlers at the product’s launching ceremony hosted yesterday at the Neal and Massy Sports Facility.

Namilco Marketing Manager Damon Pestano plugged the company’s new baby cereal as “Nutritious yet delicious” when the product was introduced to the public yesterday.

The National Milling Company (Namilco) collaborated with Geddes Grant Guyana Limited to launch the Cream of Wheat for Infants and Toddlers and a more advanced formula for adults, a press release said.

At the ceremony Pestano said breast milk was the best food for newborn babies but as the child grows Cream of Wheat for Infants and Toddlers is a nutritious option to add to the child’s diet. “It is the most affordable and nutritious product of its kind on the market. It has a shelf life of six months because the company has tried to reduce the amount of preservatives used,” he said.

Namilco also said since Guyanese consume large quantities of flour and flour products this makes the task of getting vitamins and minerals easy and inexpensive. The company said during the process of turning wheat into flour folate is lost but to remedy this it adds folic acid; a synthetic form of folate, to flour and flour products like Cream of Wheat.

Namilco said folate or folic acid is a very important vitamin which functions in many metabolic processes in the body. It also noted that eating foods rich in this vitamin is particularly important for pregnant and lactating women for the development of an infant’s nervous system.“NAMILCO is always trying to make the most important products available to the public at inexpensive prices.” Pestano said.

He also said the product has been carefully researched and manufactured to satisfy the customer.

Cream of Wheat for Infants and Toddlers and Cream of Wheat with added fibre for adults is available at supermarkets countrywide.

The function was hosted at the Neal and Massy sports facility, Ruimveldt.
