Still no word on missing businessman

Relatives of missing Jiffy Lubes owner Farouk Kalamadeen continue to monitor all phone calls to their home, hoping they would receive some word on the man’s whereabouts, even if it were a call for a ransom.
It is now five days since the man has disappeared and to date there is no word of where he might be. Only a ransom call would say definitely whether the man’s disappearance was indeed an abduction.

However, up to press time yesterday there was still no call.

Speaking with this newspaper yesterday a relative at the family’s home could not come up with an explanation as to what could have led to the man’s disappearance; insisting that “he would have never have gone anywhere for such a long time and not relate this to his family.

“We don’t know what to think. So much is going though everyone’s mind.” The relative told Stabroek News that relatives have heard many rumours as to what might have led to Kalamadeen’s disappearance.

The man said the police have so far been doing a good job, keeping relatives up to date.

He said while relatives had no idea exactly what are the lawmen’s actions in this regard and what leads they are following, they have been extremely supportive and helpful.

“I don’t know if they [the police] have told us everything, but they are trying to keep calling us and keep us up to date,” the relative said.

Asked about the businessman’s wife Nariman and how she has been coping, the relative said the woman has been receiving strong family support.

Member of Parliament Bibi Shadick, a close relative also said that it was the understanding that the police are following several leads, and also noted that the relatives have received no calls with any information as to where the man may be. She acknowledged too that only a ransom demand may give an idea of what would have led to the man’s disappearance. She said relatives are still hopeful that a ransom demand may be made.
Last week the businessman’s wife, Nariman Kalamadeen had said she felt that the man was being held against his will, but for reasons she did not know.

The 54-year-old Kalamadeen had left his D’Aguiar Park, East Bank Demerara home around 6 am on Wednesday for his routine jog and has not been seen since.

He was last seen wearing a blue sweat suit, track boots and a cap. The family have since checked every corner in the Houston, Mandela Back Road area, interviewed almost all the security guards in the block and no one has a clue as to where the former motor racer might be.

The family also believe that Kalamadeen might have been snatched as soon as he exited the gated Barrington Place, D’Aguiar Park community, noting that none of the security guards along the route he walks every day is said to have seen him on Wednesday morning.
