These were not the right helicopters

Dear Editor,

The two Bell 206 helicopters purchased by the administration to fight crime are not suited to the task says Captain Gerry Gouveia but government spokesman Dr Roger Luncheon says the nay-sayers should look out for the results.
The helicopters costing a total of just over US$1.5M($300M) are used machines with the one already here having chalked up over 10,000 flying hours.

In response to your news article it is nothing short of a comedy/tragedy that in his analysis of the costs/benefits of the new crime-fighting helicopters, Dr Luncheon has not considered the much cheaper and more effective additional measure of purchasing UAVs (as shown in the attached file).

UAVs benefits include:
1 They can fly in closer to targets
2 They can be replaced cheaply if shot down
3 The pilot never gets killed if the craft is shot down
4 You do not need expensive pilots anyway because any trained individual can fly the craft(s)
5 Infra-red photography means these machines see in the dark. Jungle campfires etc are a dead give-away.

It is not too late to invest in this new tried and tested technology and just keep the main choppers for emergency backup as Mr Gouveia mentioned in your article.

Yours faithfully,
S Sharma
