Miner accused of burgling ex-girlfriend’s home

A 35-year-old miner who allegedly burglarized the home of his ex-girlfriend was yesterday placed on $90,000 bail when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Shawn McDonald of 2810 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

It is alleged that during the night McDonald broke into the house of his ex-girlfriend, Wendy Tony, and stole $20,000 cash. During the incident the accused reportedly assaulted Tony so as to cause her actual bodily harm and he was also charged for this matter.

McDonald denied breaking into the woman’s house and further explained that he never assaulted her. It was she who assaulted him for talking to another woman, he said.

The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and will continue on April 16.
