Man shot after alleged armed robbery remanded

A 24-year-old man was remanded on charges of robbery under arms and unlawful possession of a firearm when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive–Hamilton yesterday.

Michael ThomasMichael Thomas called Enrico Inniss allegedly robbed Breeon Dover of three gold chains, one cell phone, one gold and diamond earring and cash to the total value of $351,500 on April 11.

On the same day Thomas also allegedly had in his possession one .38 automatic pistol without being the holder of valid firearm licence. Thomas of 3 ‘W’ 26 South Cummings Lodge pleaded not guilty to the possession charge but was not required to plead to the robbery under arms charge.

The defendant who had suffered a gunshot wound was given permission to sit down during the hearing.

Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels requested that bail be refused on the summary charge.

According to reports, Thomas was shot on April 11 after he robbed a barbershop on Joseph Pollydore Street. Thomas had gone to the barbershop to have his hair cut. After this was done, he reportedly whipped out a gun and demanded that the barber hand over his valuables. When he was attempting to escape an alarm was sounded and a passer-by, who is said to be a licensed firearm holder, pulled out his gun and shot him in the lower back.

Thomas collapsed and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he underwent treatment, and remained under police guard until he was discharged into police custody three days ago. The items that he had reportedly stolen were recovered and police sources said that the gun was found on him at the hospital.

Thomas returns to court on May 14.
