Mining company manager remanded on gun charge

A 24-year-old man was remanded yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on a charge of possession of a firearm without being the holder of a valid firearm licence.

Steve Narine Edwards of 169 First Street, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara allegedly had in his possession one .38 revolver on April 20 at Wai Creek, Port Kaituma. The defendant’s lawyer told the magistrate that the incident was a rather unfortunate one for his client.

He said that Edwards who is an operations manager for a mining company was left in possession of the gun after his employer made a visit to Georgetown.

The matter continues at Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on May 6.
