Survival employee accused of embezzlement bailed

Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on Thursday granted $85,000 bail to a Survival employee accused of embezzling over $1.9M from the depot.
It is alleged that Harold Madramootoo being a clerk or servant of the Survival Wholesale Depot fraudulently embezzled $1,927,899 between July 16 and August 22, 2007.
Madramootoo, 49, of 33 Second Street, Liliendaal pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The man’s lawyer James Bond told the court that his client had agreed to pay the said sum to the virtual complainants (VCs). In his own defence, Madramootoo told the court that he had already repaid $300,000 to one individual and had the receipt at home. One of the VCs present in court said he had no knowledge of that transaction.

The magistrate then ordered that the man obtain a substantial amount of money to pay on the next occasion and adjourned the matter until May 30 for report.
