An absence of comment about Burma and China disasters

Dear Editor,

Recently the world learnt of two major natural disasters in Burma and China, resulting in some 100,000 and 13,000 respectively dead according to the latest Reuters reports, yet besides this communication there is an absence of comment amongst letter and editorial writers. [Ed note: Please see our May 15 editorial, ‘Burma daze.’]
Is it that our time is consumed so much locally, that the plight and suffering of these nations has escaped us?

There is a message for all mankind as we witness these natural disasters around the globe, eg earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, bush fires, cyclones and man-made ones – wars, food riots and starvation, etc.

On a much brighter side, thanks to the Food for the Poor and the President for assisting Ms Haywood to acquire a house. It is a Mothers’ Day gift, though late, which would be more than appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
