No significant achievements after forty-two years

Dear Editor,

The only thing that seems to dominate Guyanese news is death and despair. What can we celebrate after achieving forty-two years as an independent nation? Nothing of significance that demonstrates any socio-economic progress. The people of Guyana are still poor and consequently the moral decay is disheartening.

Where will we be in the next forty years? Maybe we will be rid of the clutches of racial politics that benefit the political elites; this I hope and pray for. The people of Guyana have to decide at what point in their political independence they need to put an end to the mismanagement of Guyana’s human and natural resources. Do not let the few divide you and rule. For truly, you are ‘One People, One Nation, One Destiny.’

Yours faithfully,
