Rain/ exams curtail trials but selectors shortlist 20-man squad

First it was the May/June rains. Then the annual CSEC examinations prevented any play in the two limited overs trial matches organised by the junior selection panel of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to select Guyana’s squad  for the regional TCL Under-19 cricket tournament in Barbados in the next two months.

Nevertheless, the selectors met and decided on a 20-man squad that will go into encampment from tomorrow until Sunday.
Guyana are the defending champions having retained the title in St. Kitts last year after winning same in 2006 when the tournament was played here in Guyana.

Those shortlisted for the encampment are: Royan Fredericks, Eugene La Fleur, Trevon Griffith, Balbinder Shivpersaud, Michael Felix, Seon Hetymyer, Jeetendra Sookdeo, Alex Amsterdam, Royston Alkins, Jonathan Foo, Dillon Heyliger, Amir Khan, Totaram Bishun, Herman Latcha, Anthony Bramble, Denver Greaves, Sahadeo Somai, Keyron Fraser, Keon Joseph and Leon Scott.

Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) president and GCB vice president Alvin Johnson will serve as manager whilst former national player Hubern Evans will perform the duties of coach a position both held last year when Guyana retained their three-day title in St. Kitts. They lost to Jamaica in the final of the limited-overs competition.
