Duo was awaiting opportunity to commit crime

Two men were placed on $15,000 bail each on Thursday after they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court slapped with a charge of being “found awaiting an opportunity to commit a felony.”

Royston George, 26, of 25 Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara and Kevin Singh, 18, of First Street, Cummings Lodge both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The men were represented by attorney-at-law Mark Waldron in association with Abiola Wong-Inniss.

Waldron described the charges as the “most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard.”
He said that Singh who is a building contractor was taken to George’s home to provide some estimates for construction work.

George was taking Singh back to his home when they were stopped at a police cordon and were both arrested after searches were conducted on the vehicle they were travelling in.

Waldron said that his clients were in custody since last Saturday and after five days to investigate this was the best the police could have come up with.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Mathews said that neither of the two could have given the police a proper account of what they were doing at the time of their arrest and a wanted man was in the vehicle with them. The matter continues on June 9 in Court Four.
