Seraiah ClarkA 26-year-old father of one who allegedly indecently assaulted a woman was refused bail when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Seraiah Clark of 77 South Ruimveldt Park pleaded not guilty to charges of indecent assault and unlawful and malicious damage to personal property when they were read to him.

It is alleged that on May 28 at La Penitence, Georgetown, Clark went to the house of the virtual complainant (VC), and indecently assaulted the woman and damaged clothing worth $6,900.
Clark’s attorney explained that the incident occurred during an “invited” meeting. An argument ensued between the two parties over Clark’s “new” involvement and it escalated to the present matter, the attorney explained.

On the day of the alleged incident the woman said that she was at home watching television when Clark jumped her fence and forced his way into her house. According to the VC, she and Clark had an exchange of words and as she was escorting him to the door he made a sudden grab at her.

“He scramble me and start to beat me,” she said. The VC further explained that Clark forced her into her bedroom and proceeded to “rip” her clothes off and then indecently assaulted her.

The prosecution did not oppose bail. According to them, since it is a case where it is the VC’s word against that of the accused the prosecution must remain in a neutral position. However, Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle subsequently refused bail.

The matter was transferred to Court Four and will continue on June 9.
