The PNCR has failed to change

Dear Editor,
The main opposition PNCR has changed its name several times, but it has failed to change its attitude and this is its basic problem preventing it from offering itself to the general public as a viable alternative to the PPP/C government.

It is clear that many of their supporters are disenchanted with them and many gravitated towards the Alliance For Change in addition to those who switched to the PPP/Civic, and even more will desert at the 2011 elections.

The PNCR is a party of guile and trickery and is adept in the use of propaganda. After the change in government in 1992, following the first free and fair elections since 1964, the PNC attacked the economic growth taking place under the PPP/C claiming that the government was manipulating the statistics to arrive at the growth figures.

After it was pointed out to them that the same methodology was being used as they did to claim economic growth shortly before they demitted office, they kept quiet for some time. Then they resurfaced claiming falsely that it was they who were in fact responsible for the growth.

The growth did not please them, so using the results of the free and fair 1997 elections as an excuse, they used their protests to obstruct the administration and make the country “ungovernable,” which attempt caused the country to lose billions of dollars and disrupted economic activity.

Now that the country continues to make progress and has successfully hosted several mega-events, and is receiving large foreign and local investments, and is about to host another mega-event, the PNCR has embarked once again on their ‘peaceful’ protest marches, hoping to cause confusion and disruption.

However, the majority of the people will not be fooled by these stratagems and ploys, and are fully supportive of successfully hosting Carifesta X.
Yours faithfully,
John Da Silva
