Hillary Clinton did not win the popular vote

Dear Editor,
Mr AA Fenty in his column ‘Frankly Speaking’ of June 6, 2008, highlighted in bold ink that “Hillary won more people’s popular, actual votes” (than Barack Obama). Really? It would be interesting for him to cite his source. Until he does that, I would say that Mr Fenty is guilty of cavalier journalism, in this instance, by repeating a falsehood that emanated from Hillary Clinton and her surrogates.

Fenty could have easily done some research and found that that claim should appropriately be relegated to the dustbin. I would recommend he read Newsweek magazine’s article titled, ‘Clinton’s Popular Vote Claim? Close – But Not Quite.’

For starters Hillary’s vote count includes the ‘Cinderella’ primaries of Florida and Michigan and excludes states like Alaska, American Samoa, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Nebraska, Washington, Hawaii and Wyoming which held caucuses and awarded delegates. Some popular vote victory!
Yours faithfully,
Clinton Urling
