Rising Sun Farms sponsors 20/20 competition

It will be twelve Rounds of Twenty20 action when the West Berbice Cricket Association (WBCA) Rising Sun Farms sponsored Inter-club Twenty20 Cricket Competition 2008 gets underway next Wednesday with three first round matches.

The competition was launched at a simple ceremony held in the boardroom of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) office on Thursday, when managing director of Rising Sun Farms Reard Shivrattan handed over the sponsorship cheque valued $50,000.00 and trophies to Marketing and Public Relations Officer of the WBCA Abel Seetaram.

Six teams from Zone A and seven from Zone B will be vying for the top prize of $30,000.00 and a trophy whilst the runners –up will pocket $20,000.00 and a trophy in matches that are scheduled to commence at 1400hrs (2:00pm).

“We at Rising Sun Farms are pleased to be associated with the West Berbice Cricket Association in this venture. Twenty20 cricket is fast catching around the world at the moment and we feel great to know that we are able to help with the promotion of that form of the game in the West Berbice area.”

Action in the first round will centre on teams from Zone A and are as follows.

At D’Edward ground, Blairmont will take on D’Edward A whilst Woodley Park Young Strikers will journey to Number Two Sports Club to challenge the home team. First round action will culminate the same day with Shieldstown playing host to D’Edward B at Shieldstown.

On Friday 13th Zone B first round action will commence with Bush Lot Sports Club playing host to Bath Community Development Council A at Bushlot. Young Achievers Sports Club will take on Bath Community development Council B team at Bath ground, Hopetown will oppose Rainbow Generation at Seafield. Young Achievers A team has drawn the bye in this round.
