‘Let noble thoughts come from everywhere’

Dear Editor,

This week, ‘truth’ dominated the news and the SN editorial on Sunday, June 8, described the growing problem we have in Guyana with the battle with sections of the government on knowledge and truth.

The Guyana Times has a bold subtitle of ‘The Beacon of Truth,’ a statement previously seen on religious tracts – so many beacons of truth out there that conflict arises because we hold our truths dear to us.

The Creation Hymn from the Rig Veda ends beautifully, indicating that not even the creator may know everything “Whence this creation has arisen – perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not – the One who looks down on it,  in the highest heaven, only He knows or perhaps He does not know.” The Rig Veda explains: aano bhadrah kritawo yantu vishwataha, which means, “Let noble thoughts come to us from everywhere.”

At least the Hindus in power should be open to criticism, dialogue and engagement.

Yours faithfully,
Vidyaratha Kissoon
