Sending money for less

Dear Editor,

Over the years I was a loyal customer of a popular money transfer company, receiving money from my family in the US. They served me well; they called me when my money was there and I’d get a bus or walk to Regent Street and get my money. I have two people that send money to me – my father and sister, one in Washington and the other in New York. However, for some time now my sister has been complaining about the cost of sending the money. Because of the cost she started sending less, so last year when I heard of the new money transfer Senvia, I told her about it and she tried it. It worked. First she used to send me about three hundred dollars a month, which cost her as much as thirty dollars, but now she is sending more money because it is costing her only eight dollars. Now all my family have started sending by Senvia.I was talking to one of the people running Senvia, and they were telling me that they were very surprised that unlike what happens in Jamaica and other Caribbean countries, Guyanese seem not to be interested in having their families pay less to send them money. I too was very surprised that this was so. To me, I am getting the same level of service at a cheaper price.

Yours faithfully,
