The Guyana Human Rights Association (GHRA) has added its voice to those calling for a full and independent inquiry into the murder of eight miners at Lindo Camp.
In a press release on Tuesday the GHRA said unlike other recent atrocities the miners’ families do not have bodies to bury and for this reason the society should do everything necessary to help them to accept their loss. In order facilitate the healing process; it is important that the families are given “a full and believable account of how their loved ones met their deaths,” the release said.
The GHRA said too the cruelty which accompanied these killings points to a level of depravity which matches that demonstrated in earlier killings. This reinforces its view that “the society is learning to live in denial of wanton cruelty and developing an unwholesome ability to absorb atrocities.”
