Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded to prison two 25-year-old men from Servai Village after they admitted that they had stolen a boat and an outboard engine from the RDC.

Fitzroy Oselmo Fitzroy Oselmo and Errol Ferreira both of the North West District pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny when they yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. However, they requested the court’s permission to explain what had happened.

According to the facts of the case on June 25 at Servai Village the men stole a wooden boat and a Yamaha outboard engine valued $1.4 million, property of the Region One Regional Democratic Council (RDC).

In his defence, Oselmo alleged that a man who is responsible for the boat and engine told him that he wanted to sell the engine to buy a smaller one and had asked him to move them for him. To accomplish this, Oselmo said he recruited Ferreira’s help. A few days later he said the village captain told him that he was wanted by the Port Kaituma Police.

Errol Ferreira After listening to the explanation the magistrate entered not guilty pleas on each man’s behalf.

The matter was then transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court for August 5.
