A drinking spree between two brothers at a rum shop yesterday ended with them being rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital after they stabbed each other with broken bottles and knives around 7 pm.
Stabroek News learnt that just before the incident occurred, the brothers known as Vishal and “Buck Boy,” who are 25 years old and 23 years old respectively and live at Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice were “joking around.”
However, according to reports, the joke ended in a bitter brawl when the younger brother started teasing Vishal about his wife.
Persons said that the two, who are employed at a sawmill in the village, broke bottles and stabbed each other. They were also seen “rolling in the grass and fighting.”
They said that Vishal who was carrying a knife whipped it out and inflicted more wounds on “Buck Boy.” In the end, they were both covered in blood and their employers picked them up and rushed them to the hospital.
According to reports, the two had gone to the shop around 4.30 pm to drink with their friends and appeared to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
