Three years for stabbing mother with knife

A 21-year-old man, who stabbed his mother several times, was slapped with a three-year sentence when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Donald Clarke of 2034 Hummingbird Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful and malicious wounding so as to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.

On June 14 at the said address Clarke attacked his mother with a kitchen knife and then chased her for some distance. He dealt her several stabs and the woman had to be hospitalized.

Donald ClarkeAccording to reports, on the day in question at the said address, the defendant was in the kitchen with his mother who was sweeping. Clarke picked up a pot containing drink mix and when his mother told him that it was not sweetened he became annoyed and picked up a knife and advanced on her. She managed to rush out the front door and down the stairs in an attempt to escape. She was dealt a stab during the process.

She made it through the front gate, reports further said, and ran up the street. Clarke managed to stab her in the abdomen before nearby residents intervened and rescued her. The police were subsequently informed and the defendant was taken into custody.

Clarke told the court that he was eating on that day and some rice had fallen on the table and he was cleaning it. When the magistrate asked if he was cleaning with the knife the young man became violently angry.

He swore at the magistrate while saying, “I de cleaning and she didn’t want to move so I stab she.”
Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle then sentenced Clarke to three years.
