Agricola man refused bail over stabbing of sister’s boyfriend

A 35-year-old man was remanded when he appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding.

It is alleged that on July 3, Sean Mathews, 35, of 156 Titus Street, Agricola unlawfully wounded his sister’s boyfriend Clive Lynch.

Lynch told the court that he had gone to buy mosquito coil and was returning from the shop when he was attacked and stabbed suddenly by Mathews.

Prosecutor Denise Griffith asked that bail be refused since the man had faced the court twice before on charges of attacking and stabbing his own sister.

The sister who was present in court yesterday said she did not follow up the matters in the past because her parents had asked her not to. However, the woman said, it was becoming a habit with her brother and this time he must face the consequences of his actions. She added that her brother would smoke marijuana before he committed these acts.

Mathews returns to court on July 18.
