Jamaican lauds Linden surgeon for saving his ‘manhood’

A Jamaican working in the logging industry at Silver Hill was high in praise of the surgeon at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) for saving his “manhood”.

Roary Parkinson, 41, of St Catherine, Jamaica and Silver Hill Linden-Soesdyke Highway, was rushed yesterday to the Linden Hospital Complex with a large splinter in his groin and abdomen and had a successful surgery.

Speaking with Stabroek News Parkinson said he was trying to position a large tree when he and his work mates fell, He said when he slipped and a large splinter from the log pierced his groin.

“Meh beg deh Dacta fa tell meh if me guine loose meh manhood and if sah leh me dead,” Parkinson said.

Doctors at the hospital suspended several other surgeries to conduct what was said to be a very technical operation.

Meanwhile, persons close to the man said they were very disappointed when they called the ambulance and was told it was out of service and they had to seek out their own transportation to get the man to the hospital. Several others said that on several occasions when they called for the ambulance they were told that it was out of service. Efforts to garner a comment from the LHC Ambulance Service proved futile.

Parkinson said he has been working in the interior of Guyana for the past three years, but since mining has been on the decline, he resorted to working at Silver Hill with other colleagues some three months ago.
