German remanded on cocaine charge

A 20-year-old German, who allegedly trafficked in two kilogrammes and 45 grammes of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), was remanded to prison when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Dimitrie LitovcenkoDimitrie Litovcenko of Germany, who was staying at Fifth Avenue, Subryanville since he arrived in Guyana on June 15, pleaded not guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics when it was read to him with the aid of an interpreter.

It is alleged that on July 7 at CJIA, Litovcenko had kilogrammes and 45 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Attorney-at-law Glen Hanoman represented the accused and made an application for reasonable bail which was refused.

Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle remanded Litovcenko and the matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for July 25.
