New power network for Timehri
GPL says it will soon start construction on a new network at Timehri and urges consumers who operate within the environs of the airport to complete their commercial arrangements as soon as possible.

In a press release the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said it expects to start construction within the next two weeks and hopes to “substantially complete it by the end of August.” The Inter-American Development Bank has approved funding for the network under the Unserved Areas Electrification Pro-gramme that will allow consumers who paid their bills at the Region Four administration and who have not been issued with an eviction notice to become members of GPL and make payments at the company or its agents.

The company advises residents who have been served with removal notices by the management of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri that they would not be eligible to apply for new services from GPL. “For clarity, persons living in the Prison and Fire Service Housing Schemes, businesses around the airport periphery and residents around the access road to Jubilee Resort would be excluded,” GPL said. It said too from September 1 the old existing network will be de-energised, dismantled and removed.

GPL said during next week it would dispatch a mobile commercial team to collect applications for service. The date and time would be announced on NCN Channel 11 later this week. Each applicant would be required to pay a $10,000 non-refundable capital contribution and a $5,000 refundable security deposit. The company urged the more than 600 who are set to benefit from the new network to complete their commercial arrangements early.
