Ferocious attacks!

Derwin Boatswain’s immaculate punching strength and precise body and head hunting attacks blasted apart Republican Gym’s Zackerman Montique in their welterweight clash on the opening night of the National Open amateur boxing championships on Sunday at the National Gymnasium.

Montique could not withstand the ferocious assault of the Guyana Defence Force’s boxer and fell early in their welterweight bout.

In another bout which ended by knockout Tesaun Mc Kenzie of the Forgotten Youth Foundation kayoed Tevis James of the Timehri Warriors.

It was an  evening  of entertainment and the National Gymnasium was almost filled to capacity for the 23-fight card of the Gaskin and Jackson Jewellers- sponsored event.

In other results: Harpy Eagle’s (HE) Shameer Narine fell to Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym’s (PRBG) Kenny Amsterdan in the 55-59lbs category; Mocha Arcadia’s Kenroy Douglas lost  to Jellon Denroy (60-64lbs); Essequibo’s Andell Moore gained a victory over Marlon Edwards (PRBG) in the 60-64lbs and Antwon Grant (HE) defeated Shamar Moore of Ricola Boxing Gym in the 70-74lbs category.

Nearing the 100lbs weight class, Mocha’s Omali Henry thrashed Quesey Jacobs of the West Side Bombers (WSB) while Aaron DeYounge (Ricola) bowed out to Timheri Warrior’s (TW) Donnel Trapp in the 90-94lbs category.

Mocha’s Quincy Newton won against Teon Wilson of Essequibo (100-104lbs) while Jamal Bourne (WSB) whipped Mervin Williams (TW) in the 110-117lbs weight class and Kevon Anderson defeated his Mocha gym mate Shakelie Eziekel (118-125lbs).

Raphael Fordyce of Timheri Warrior received a whipping from Buxton’s Troyston Warde in the lightweight division while the bantamweight bout between FYF’s Wincell Thomas  and Odell Persaud (Essequibo) was won by Persaud.

Republican’s Samuel Forde lost to Hubert Adams (TW) and Rayon Hernandes defeated his fellow Republican gym mate Akeem Edward while Troy Waldron (WSB) pummelled TW’s Julian Trapp in the Cadets middleweight division.

Buxton’s Troy Billey won in the Open category of the flyweight division against Dexter Jordan (FYF) and Ryan Jeffers (GDF) trounced Prince Sloane of Young Achievers in their bantamweight bout.

In the light welterweight category  Randolph Williams (GDF) won against Davion Abrams (REP) and Hudley Khan (REP) defeated Mark Austin of Young Achievers.

Lightweight Aubrey Moore of Essequibo won a heated battle against Republican’s Raphael Moore while another Republican Rayon Seales defeated his gym mate Richard Bourne in the Open middleweight division.
The championships continued last evening at the same venue.
